Bike and Pedestrian Path Proposal

Link Shady Side, Churchton and Deale with a 6 to 8 foot wide path for cyclist and pedestrians along Deale Churchton Road, Shady Side Rd, Muddy Creek Rd, Franklin Manor Road, Gwynne Ave and Franklin Blvd.

Include a minimum 3 foot wide median between the road and path that could also function as drainage. Landscape with indigenous plants and grasses. Use wooden guardrails when necessary. It would be most desirable for these road improvements to blend with the natural environment and not be a continuous wall of concrete barriers and steel guardrails.

Additionally, these road improvements would provide an opportunity in the process to bury utilities underground, making this area more resilient to future climate change weather events, as well as restoring the environment to a more natural state.

This proposal would not only make the roads safer and the residents less car dependent, it would also act as a catalyst for revitalizing a community that has an abundance of shoreline and natural areas.
